It’s crazy to think that people are using platforms every day that they don’t fully understand. If you’re curious to learn more about cloud computing, keep reading!
#### Okay, So What Is Cloud Computing?
Before we dive into the specifics, let’s define what cloud computing is in simple terms. Cloud computing is the process of transmitting on-demand computing services from applications to storage and or processing power. The cloud computing process is typically done over the internet with a pay-as-you-go pricing model. Most companies will choose to utilize cloud computing renting options, rather than owning their own computing infrastructure or data centers.
#### How Does it Work
Cloud computing all started with [Software as a Service (SaaS)](https://www.empist.com/top-10-tech-acronyms-should-know/) – being that SaaS offers applications online. Companies like Salesforce, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft were some of the first to run their own data centers.
Now, there’s an important distinction to make between using the cloud and cloud computing. Just because you are obtaining information from the cloud, doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re cloud computing. What classifies the action as cloud computing is when a customer can open an account online, configure their needs and compute from a web browser.

Every day more companies are switching over from in-house IT to cloud computing systems. The most popular reasons companies are moving over to cloud computing is cost, accessibility, speed, and customization.
